Game Purpose
I viewed an important talk show about how gaming can influence or make the world a better place. I found this quite impressive in what she had to say. Because i never knew how much we are focusing on urban problems and using games to take our minds off of it because it's much easier than facing it, In the gaming world we are more stronger and tactical about problems and we know when we are facing a obstacle that we will always win, even if it was a countless failure, it wouldn't hurt our dignity to try again. Where as in reality, we are overwhelmed by society and tend to feel useless and cannot bare to do anything. I think she really brought out her understanding of how we feel in gaming and how we feel in reality. She says that gaming can make the world better by playing harder and better games because it gets us thinking about problem solving.
I found one of her messages very interesting, which was, "in gaming we become the best version of ourselves, the most likely to help one another, most likely to stick with the problem and fix it as you go." This is interesting, because in some ways it is true, in gaming we do become the best versions of ourselves, we don't see failure as a obstacle that hovers over our shoulders and weighs you down, but as a opportunity to get better. To attack the problem with better instincts and better attitude. Where as in reality we don't apply these skills to real life "urban problems". We tend to feel useless and overwhelmed of what society might say when you fail. So we just walk away without using this to get better and this is what we could use to help to make the world a better place. And it is skills like this you learn in games that she thinks that will make the world a better place.
